The basics are becoming the benchmark
The National Cyber Security Centre has developed 10 Minimum Cyber Security Standards covering the fundamentals, including risk management, security awareness, multi-factor authentication, patching, detecting unusual behaviour, data recovery and response planning.
They’re designed for government agencies, but the NCSC also welcomes other organisations, including New Zealand SMBs, to adopt them.

Don’t wait for the pressure to arrive
We’re seeing cyber security expectations change. Whether the pressure eventually comes from customers, industry requirements, insurers, government, or your own experience of a cyber incident, waiting until you’re forced to act is rarely the best strategy.
No one is saying these need to be solved tomorrow. A pragmatic approach, by aligning with an I.T. partner on the same page, should be your first step. If that is us, great. Know that you’re heading in the right direction.
