Ross Gardner Staff Bio

In detail, what is your role at Think IT?

I am the Professional Services Engineer. This includes remote and onsite work to install and repair IT hardware and software. I also specialise in regular maintenance visits for our managed services clients, where we try and catch problems before they occur, by being proactive and talking to users on a regular basis face to face about any concerns they may have.

What is it that drives and encourages you within your work and personal life?

I like helping people get the most from their IT equipment, to make it work the way they want. I like everything to be running smoothly in and out of the office, therefore I will help my friends and family as much as I can.

Who, or what, was the biggest influence in your career today?

Bill Gates company "Microsoft" are at the core of the computer era I have worked in since the early 1990's. Not a day goes by that I wouldn't be using one of Microsoft's programs.

Whose biggest fan, are you?

I support a lot of different charities, but I have a passion for animal welfare. I think the SPCA deserve as much support as we can give them. They're the voice of the animals that can't help the situation they're in.

What accomplishment are you most proud of within your job role at Think IT?

My longevity in the ever changing landscape of the IT industry, I am the longest serving member of the technical team at Think IT. (apart from the directors). I think it's great that Think IT and I have had some clients since I started back in May 2000.

What technology most excites you?

Robotics that could enable surgeons to perform operations on people without being in the same country as the patient. 3D printing of body parts. To be able to repair or replace an arm or a leg with an exact replica with no possibility of rejection, would be a game changer.

What areas should business be focussing on when it comes to technology?

The security of company data against cyber criminals via a direct attack or global malware release should be a concern for any business, especially as more and more systems are online, cloud based and interconnected with other 3rd party networks. A complete disaster recovery plan should be custom designed and tested regularly to ensure that if the worst happens the companies data is safe.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I am a bit of a petrol head and like reading motoring magazines and watching/attending motoring shows. I also love my Maine Coon cats, they're the largest breed of domestic cat and males that can reach over 10kg. I currently have a 2 year old girl and a 12 week old boy, tearing up the place and who keep me very busy.

If you could gain one super-human power, what would it be?

I would like the power to heal; be it broken bones or disease. To end all human and animal suffering.
