Staff Biography - Andrew King

In detail, what is your role at Think IT?

I am the Product Development Manager at Think IT, I look at new or improved solutions that we can use to help our customers. There are many facets involved from finding, reviewing and testing the solutions from both a technical and commercial perspective, negotiating with suppliers so we can bring better pricing to our customers, training staff both on the technical and sales side for product delivery and often providing support to the teams going forward with the in depth product knowledge gained throughout the process.

What is it that drives and encourages you within your work and personal life?

Positive Outcomes. I enjoy solving problems. I like to make things, to make things work, to make things better. From an Excel spreadsheet, writing some software, configuring a hardware device, researching the best solution, electronics, mechanical it's not about the medium involved for me but applying myself to come up with the best outcome possible.

Who, or what, was the biggest influence in your career today?

The internet, with the wealth of information available at your finger tips, I can research & learn new skills faster to tackle more problems.

Whose biggest fan, are you?

What accomplishment are you most proud of within your job role at Think IT?

What technology most excites you?

All technology and what it can do for us excites me, the advances the world is making with technology across the board makes this a very exciting time for us all.

What areas should business be focussing on when it comes to technology?

Businesses should be looking at their processes, how they can digitize, automate and improve them using technology to reduce costs, improve efficiency and outputs to better their business. It's needs to be a continual approach like the Deming Cycle to work with your technology partner to make changes, review the results and continue to make positive changes that further improve the desired outcomes.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Outings with my family, boating/fishing, mountain biking, and making/fixing things in my workshop. Current projects include building a 3D printer and next a CNC machine to compliment my workshop so I can design, automate and make new things using technology.

If you could gain one super-human power, what would it be?

Teleportation. Technology can help us fly or make us stronger, teleportation at least for now is a little harder unless you are super-human. We waste so much time travelling, image what you could do with all that extra time not to mention the places you could go and experience with teleportation.
