Hard disk drive price increase hits larger vendors

Drive pricing hits larger vendors – expect more large vendors to be impacted

On Friday EMC released a statement about how the “tragic, persistent flooding in Thailand has impacted the cost of hard disk drives in the global marketplace”. EMC held their drive prices for their SAN products during Q4 and absorbed the cost of any increases, but have been forced to increase drive prices starting 1st January 2012. EMC hopes the situation is temporary and will honour prices until January. So if you are in the final stages of considering a SAN purchase we recommend ordering in the next 4 days as the hard drive cost can be a large part of a SAN order.
